Netflix For Yogis - Top 10 Shows To Watch May 2019

It's Friday night, you've just finished a beautiful yin yoga class to end the week and you want to vege out on the couch - we got you! Here we've compiled a list of the best things to watch on Netflix for yogi's! So put on some comfy pants...oh wait, you're probably already wearing your yoga pants, make a big pot of chai and some moringa popcorn and enjoy the show!

1.The OA

I read somewhere that this series is the most binged series on Netflix, so clear your schedule because chances are you’re going to watch this series in one sitting - it’s that good!

Dripping in underlying spiritual symbolism (death, rebirth, chakras, angels and demons etc), the story of Prairie/Nina/OA will have you hooked and thinking about it days later.

Watch if: you’re looking for entertainment with underlying messages.

2. Brene Brown - The Call To Courage

Ok, so I have been totally fangirling on Brene Brown; I love what she says and I love the way she says it. I learnt so many fabulous tools from watching this, such as beginning all difficult conversations with, “the story I’m telling myself is…”. Honestly, she’s so brilliant. This is a must watch.

Watch if: You want to work on yourself and improve your connections.

3. Our Planet

I watched in awe at the beauty and mystery of nature throughout this series. Living within a city it is so easy to forget how incredible the world is. Narrated by the legend himself David Attenborough this series will make you amp up your efforts (even more) towards environmental sustainability.

Watch if: you want to educate yourself on the reality of global warming.

4. Jane

Jane Goodall is one of my ultimate heros, and not for the obvious reason that she lived with Chimpanzees in Africa at a time when a) no one else had and b) it was unheard of for a women to live in Africa solo, but because of her holistic approach to life. She lives with such love for all living things. “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”

I read her autobiography Reason For Hope; A Spiritual Journey a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite books.

Watch if: you want to feel uplifted

5. John & Yoko - Above Us Only Sky

“Imagine” remains such a powerful album to this day. Watch never seen before footage of the making of this monumental album, as John, Yoko and co. use music and poetry to inspire change in the world.

Watch if: you want to be inspired by a couple of love birds (that happen to be famous) who wanted to bring peace to the world.

6. Period. End Of Sentence

This Oscar-winning documentary shines the spotlight on issues surrounding menstruation in India. Access to sanitary napkins is almost non-existent and as a result many girls drop out of school. They are believed to be dirty and are not permitted to enter temples. There is so much shame and misinformation about menstruation. This project is so inspiring, to find out more check out The Pad Project

Watch if: you want to lift the taboo on menstruation and be inspired by women’s empowerment.

7. Roma

This Oscar nominated film is beautifully shot in black and white, set in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. It portrays an intimate family portrait and the dynamics between Cleo, a domestic worker and the family. An insightful reflection of director Alfonso Cuarón own experience as a child.

Watch if: you’re interested in human connection.

8. A True Cost

After the devastating factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, the spotlight has been on the fashion industry and the treatment of factory workers in developing countries.

Watch if: you’re a consumer, ie. EVERYBODY needs to watch this documentary

9. Amelie

Amelie has been in my top fave movies since it’s release in 2002 (where does the time go?). Beautifully filmed, we watch Amelie, a kind and slightly awkward girl, try to change the world by changing the lives of the people around her.

Watch if: it’s a cold rainy night and you need something to give you the warm and fuzzies.

10. The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

Based on a true and truly inspiring story. Exploring the food crisis in Malawi’s in the early 2000s and a boy’s (William Kamkwamba) courage and determination to make a positive change in his community.

Watch if: you need a good cry.
