What Does The 5% Donation Actually Mean?

7 out of 10 children in Guatemala are malnourished, even more so in indigenous communities such as San Marcos La Laguna, the home of Konojel Community Centre where Luke and I volunteered for seven months.

Forty percent of San Marcos natives are living on less than $2 per day per household, according to the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture. Poverty permeates every aspect of their lives, including their physical stature, their nutrition, physical, and dental health. Impacts incllude high rates of unwanted pregnancy, reduced opportunity for adequate employment, and more.

Konojel Nutrition Centre feeds 60 of the town's most "at risk", 5 days a week. This not only includes children, but also the elderly and pregnant women. By purchasing through Akasha you are directly contributing to fighting malnutrition in Guatemala. Konojel relies on the generosity of others, like you.
